Curling Safety

If you are an inexperienced curler, ask a club member for an orientation to the game and a basic curling lesson before you play.

  • If you have a health problem, discuss curling with your doctor before you try curling
  • Warm up and stretch properly before the game
  • Wear warm  comfortable clothing
  • Wear flat shoes with clean soft rubber soles.
  • When stepping onto the ice, put your gripper foot onto the ice first; when stepping off the ice, remove your gripper foot last
  • Always hold your curling brush with both hands, except when delivering a rock
  • Do not lift up a curling rock
  • Do not stop a moving rock with your foot
  • When moving a rock, keep your brush in contact with it at all times
  • Do not brush a rock until you have been taught how to do so (most accidents occur when brushing)
